Happy Valley Neighborhood Board Meeting Minutes 10/08/2008

November 18,2008 next general meeting 7:00 PM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

The meeting was called to order by President Johnny Hymas.  Yevonne Dean, Richard Sullivan, Carolyn Herron, Bobbi Vollendorff, Jim Spaich were in attendance.

One of the issues discussed centered on day lighting/rerouting/flow concerns of Padden Creek and maintenance of the beam area at 32nd. We also discussed tree planting next to the freeway and landscaping along the Parkway.  These are all issues that we are inviting various agencies, City, County and State to meet with the neighbors about.  Wendy has started a dialogue with Raven Whitewolf about this topic.

Anne George did a great job on the newsletter.  Some little things that can be addressed in the next issue are to change the address where money and articles are to be sent.  Jim Spaich has offered to proof the newsletter and will work with Anne on the structure.  We would also like to include the names, phone numbers and addresses of our Board members.  It would also be nice to include a simple calendar with general meetings, board meeting dates and whatever else we have long range knowledge about.

Treasury issue---folks, we are out of money!  Anyone that would like to donate please feel free to do so.  Johnny moved that we raise our neighborhood dues from $5.00 per year to $10.00 as of January 2009.  Jim seconded the motion and it carried.  John and Jim will work on a post card appeal to be mailed out to the neighbors and Bobbi will fund the mailing.

John mentioned talking with Jeff Kraus about Neighborhood T-shirts as a possible fund raiser.

Tree planting is Saturday, Nov 22, 08.  Volunteers need to meet at Wendy’s at 10:00 A.M. for donuts etc. Her house is at the corner of Larabee and 19th Street.  Johnny has used some of the tree planting money to buy tree watering bags which will protect our trees in the dry season.  Larry Jackson may be willing to help with this project.  Volunteer hours have been upped to $15.00 per hour.

There is a note about Greg Aucutt senior city planner and another about Shannon Maris who is working on neighborhood raingardens but I have no  idea what I was going to add about either of these two names.

Jim Spaich will fund tree planting.
