Happy Valley Earth Day Work Party
What: The Larrabee Avenue R.O.W. is an undeveloped Right of Way (ROW), located between 21 st and 22 nd St. in the Happy Valley neighborhood. This section of ROW has a small water quality/stormwater pond and trail on it that is maintained by the City.  It is a forested wetland ecosystem, and the project recognized by Bellingham’s Bee City U.S.A. Native plants have been planted at the site in a pollinator mound and hedgerow for the last four years to attract pollinators, The site is a well-used urban wildlife habitat, including ducks in the pond, in addition to multiple species of birds.
– Join the Happy Valley Neighborhood Association for a Work Party to restore an undeveloped Right-of-Way
– We’ll be removing invasive plant species, installing cardboard sheet mulch, spreading wood chips, and planting native plants
– Warm drinks and snacks provided
When: Saturday, April 20, 2024, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Where: Larrabee Ave right-of-way at 21 st St.
Bring: Gloves, Shovel, Pruning shears, Hori horis, wheelbarrow
Wear: Sturdy boots, the ground is wet and you will be digging.
Weather appropriate clothing to stay warm and dry.

Southside Community Meal–“Building Community One Meal at a Time”*
What: The Happy Valley Neighborhood Association and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church partner to provide a monthly “homemade” meal. Gather with and get to know your neighbors. Everyone is invited, and the meal is free.
Menu: Lasagna, salad, bread
*Bring a dessert to share!
When: April 21 st from 5 – 6:30 pm

Reverse Opioid Overdose with Naloxone/Narcan
What: Whatcom County EMS training specialist Steve Cohen will make a presentation on how to recognize an opioid overdose and administer fast-acting naloxone/Narcan. Use of naloxone/Narcan does not require medical experience. It’s easy to administer and could save a life.
